Audition Info

Play Synopsis:

Tony-winning Peter and the Starcatcher upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). The play provides a backstory for the characters of Peter Pan, Mrs Darling, Tinker Bell and Hook, and serves as a prequel to J. M. Barrie's Peter and Wendy. A wildly theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novels, the play was conceived for the stage by directors, Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, and written by Rick Elice, with music by Wayne Barker. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair... and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

A young orphan and his mates are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They know nothing of the mysterious trunk in the captain’s cabin, which contains a precious, otherworldly cargo. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training who realizes that the trunk’s precious cargo is starstuff, a celestial substance so powerful that it must never fall into the wrong hands. When the ship is taken over by pirates – led by the fearsome Black Stache, a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own – the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure.

Featuring a dozen actors portraying more than 100 unforgettable characters, Peter and the Starcatcher uses ingenious stagecraft and the limitless possibilities of imagination to bring the story to life.

  6. Attend the audition on Saturday, November 16 from 10:30 AM - 1:30 PM. You are expected to be there for the full three hours.  Auditions will be completed as a group and have two parts:

    • Song (Please prepare about 1 min of a musical theatre song of your choosing. It can be acapella, or you may include a link to an accompaniment track with your audition information. We are looking to see if you can tell a story and convey a character through your song.)

    • Reading from sample sides provided (Please prepare to read for one or more of the characters from the monologues/scenes included. Memorization is not required and you may be asked to read an additional scene.)

  7. Call Back Auditions will be Sunday, November 17, 12:00 - 3:00 PM - if needed.

AUDITION TIPS:

  • Review the character information and scenes in advance

  • Several characters have British or Italian accents. It is not necessary to demonstrate an accent at auditions, but if you feel comfortable you may use it during scene reads.

  • Tips on Cold Reading:

    • Research the production: If it is a pre-existing script but you don’t know what part of the script or what character you are reading for, read the whole thing. You should always read as much of the script that is available.

    • Connect with your scene partner(s). This will help you slow down and really live through the imaginary circumstance. It will also make sure that you don’t keep your eyes on your script but bring them up to where the casting team can see your acting.

    • Show Variation. If you are asked to read for more than one character, make that character different from the last one you read for. And if you are asked to read for the same character more than once, find a different choice to make in the scene.

REHEARSALS:

  • There will be a break over the holidays over Thanksgiving and between December 21 - January 1.  We might schedule one informal rehearsal - between Christmas and New Years - cast schedule dependent.

  • Tech rehearsals, dress rehearsals, performances, and strike are mandatory.

  • Refer to the Actor/Cast Agreement for more information.
