WHO ARE WE? WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Founded in 1999, VTC has been at the forefront of live performance, now offering a diverse range of productions that celebrate creativity, artistry, and tradition. As VTC enters its 26th season, we’ve evolved into a cornerstone of the local arts scene, engaging audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
VTC is dedicated to its mission of creating an inclusive environment that supports community engagement through the theatre arts. Guided by its values of growth, empathy, integrity, and respect, VTC wants the voices of the community to be heard and included in the work. It strives to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels that there is a place for them in the theatre experience. As part of our vision, we are committed to providing opportunities for community members to participate in the art of storytelling as creators, collaborators and audience members.
In September 2024, the VTC Board approved a new 3-10 year strategic plan, and we want to share the vision of where Valley Theatre Company is headed. Developed with our board and community members we are very energized by these four pillars to guide our work:
-
Balanced Organizational Growth,
-
a Dedicated VTC Facility,
-
to Optimize and Develop our Resources,
-
and to Develop and Expand our Educational Opportunities.
We recognize that we need to work as hard on the organization as we do our productions, and we commit to building a strong organization to support our future vision for Valley Theatre Company. In the late 1990's, Laughing Horse Summer Theatre, a long-running community produced summer stock theatre program in Ellensburg, shut its doors. At that time, a sub-committee of the Laughing Horse Arts Foundation earnestly committed to step-up into the gap to provide quality community theatre, with a specific focus on musical theatre. From those early discussions, Valley Musical Theatre was born, and our first production of Oliver! took place in the summer of 1999.
Over the first 25 years, we expanded our theatrical offerings and while our mission to provide quality community-based theatre remained unchanged, the number of actors, crew and patrons grew as well, and there has been a greater need to offer more than just musicals. In the future, we have visions of being able to offer Shakespeare in the Park, Reader’s Theatre, workshops, youth camps, and more! All these changes gave the Board of Valley Musical Theatre clear indication that we needed to change as well, and update our organizational name to better reflect the breadth and scope of the performing arts we currently deliver, and plan to bring to the community in the future. Hence we transitioned to Valley Theatre Company in July 2023.
